steering shaft ??s
Guna be replacing the steering box soon and my coupler is shot also. I've read about rebuilding the coupler, but mine was just done a few years ago (waste of $). Was guna go with a Borgeson shaft, but after searching e-bay, I found i can just buy a 3/4" 26 spline Borgeson u-joint for about $70 vs. 190 for the whole shaft. My ? is what would i gain from buying the whole shaft, and can i just put that u-joint assembly on mu original steering shaft to replace the coupler. Thanks, Jeff

Well, with the stock shaft, after you take the stock joint off, there isn't enough room to slip the borgeson u-joint on the shaft and still reach the the spline on the gear box. It is about an 1" short.. Been there tried that, but not to detour you away from your efforts, you can buy DD shaft cut the stock one off flush with the rag joint and then have a whole new shaft. But then it isn't colapsible which makes it a pain to put on. I imagine you could do it for 100 bucks or so if you made a whole new shaft and everything.

wish I knew this.... I would have made my own as well.Would have just welded the universal and splined part to the original shaft. Or cut the part up by the rag joint off and put it on a thicker shaft if you need it for big tires, etc. Just keep the rag joint part and the colapsable part.
