Starting the suspension mods
I took the full running boards off my truck and it really made a difference in the look of the truck. Looks like it gained 2" and looks a lot cleaner.
I put some slick 285 75's on the back. The tires were thrown out and my uncle has a changer so I thought I would give it a look. I have been suprised a couple times when the road was wet and the rear end slid out of line.....

Opsss, got off on something else, I like the height of the 285 tire and a Skyjacker 2" lift and shocks. I am going to get tires soon and the lift kit this spring.

^ do you have picts of yours? I really do not need to level the truck. Somehow it sits level. I am just going to get a 2" kit all around.
I think some 305 70 16's will look good too.

I am planning the same suspension mods, but I don't know if I want to lose the rear block and give up spring rate or keep the block and keep the harsh ride. Either way if I can get the front springs off the bump stops it will help. So far I found that Summit is the cheapest.

I'll probably run the LT295/75R16 BFG TA/KO. I think it is the best tire on the market for the money and my application. The metric numbers roughly translate to a 33x10.50R16 which is what I want, tall and skinny, I'm not sure how the 3.07's will like them tho. A good friend has them on his W350 and will get over 50k on his tires.

91.5ctdbanks that must be David. Whats up its Sana. Hows everything been? You must come see my DSM. Im about to hang a Holset HX-40 in there! I think 285/75 and 2" is a perfect balance and will ride good, too. I have always loved the look of a lifted 1st gen, even as a kid I remember how cool they were

I had a four inch skyjacker form summit and it road nice, that was until I rolled it , check out my pics. also if you buy a 2inch lift from skyjacker you are probably going to have to buy rear lift blocks seprate because you asume that all 1st gen diesels sit 2 inches high in the back, which they all don't cause my 89 sat level before I lifted it, and I had to go buy extra blocks for the back. also I was running 35" bfg mud terrains (graet tire) and they were scaping if i articulated to much, and my brother with his 90 ctd and a 4inch lift has scaped his 33's. but anyways lots of fun, once you go lifted you don't go back

I have the Skyjacker 6" w/o blocks in back and 2" up front. They ride nice going straight down the road, but that is about all. IMHO, they are no good for handling and hauling. Back end was unstable in the turns and dropped way too much under load. Had to install Timbrens and a sway bar to restore it back to a truly roadworthy work truck.

I don't think lateral location was the problem, just controlling the travel. There was nowhere near enough rebound damping and they didn't seem very strong under load either, so it was just all over the place. Maybe some really heavy duty shocks would have helped. They were paired with the Skyjacker Nitros, so I figured if that wasn't working I'd try something totally different.
