Starter Relay???????????

I now have to start the truck by turning the key to "run", disconnect the 2 prong plug on the positive battery lead and jumper the 2 connections.

Where is the relay located?

Drivers side fender wall you will see two square relays. It's the one towards the front.

Try swapping relays first, all three are the same part. If that doesn't fix it, check the neutral safety/clutch pedal switch.

It should tell you on the inside of your fuse box cover.

I looked back at some notes I had when my relay fried and I stand corrected. The middle of the 3 relays is the starter relay. The front one runs the charging system and the rear runs the a/c clutch.

I was able to diagnosis my starter relay as the problem using the a/c clutch relay. Sorry bout that.

Ok, I was just out at the truck, the middle and rear relays have the same "locator" on the plug, the front one does not. However they all have the same relay number "83159". Going out to swap and try

swapping relays is not working.

i supplied 12v from the battery to the yellow lead and the relay cycled, but did not provide power to the starter; I can only surmise that there is a disconnect from the relay to the connector plug on the positivie harness

On mine (and the PO jerry rigged various wires so I'm not sure this will apply to yours) the wire from the relay went down and fed out the wiring bundle to the front of the truck. Towards the front of the truck it came off the bundle and followed the main positive wire from the battery to the starter where it was then terminated on the solinoid. When it blew it toasted the relay, burnt the wire and ultimatly the starter was fried too and I replaced all of it. Some on the DTR have suggested keeping a spare relay because these can have a tendency to blow, and at $15 theres a spare in my glovebox, just as I've a spare voltage reg mounted on my fender

My suggestion would be to check the connectivity from the relay to the solnoid and then check the other parts wannadiesel suggested.

Relays check out. Where is the Neutral Safety switch located? Darn, I need a service manual for this pig

On a different note, the wiring has been hacked on this truck. I undid the electrical tape by the relays. The Main lead to the harness has been redone (poorly) where the fusible links tap off

Neutral safety switch is located off of the clutch pedal. The clutch pedal lever has kind of a Y shape. On the left side of the Y there is a rod that actuates the neutral safety switch. I bypassed mine when it went bad. Just disconnect the connector and loop a wire across.
