Stainless Steal Exhaust

I am going to be buying a new exhaust from Stan's and I would like to know if the stainless steal exhaust piping has enough benefits to make up for the extra cost. I really appreciate all the great advice from the people on this forum so let me know what your thoughts are.

I have the non-stainless one installed for 2 years now and live in the salty winter north. No issues thus far. Not sure if the stainless is worth the extra, unless I suppose you intend on making a show truck out of it or want the system to last over 20 years.

The only issue stainless may have is cracking. I have a backhoe with a stainless stack and I have cracked it a couple times from vibrations. I have a complete stainless exhaust on the boat and its ready to turn 13000 hours. No trouble there. Just a thought.

On a gasoline powered truck yes stainless is the way to go. On a diesel corrosion does seem to be nearly as bad, and stainless does have a tendency to crack. If you go with stainless I would suggest you not weld all joints, but use band clamps instead. Not u-clamps. These give a better grip and seal then u-clamps.

I see you are in maple ridge. I'm in Poco/Coquitlam

What is the price difference between the two systems? What grade of stainless is it?

Won't 409 still corrode? Isn't 304 the stuff they use in marine (salt) environments much better, read more expensive? Some musclecar stuff is now going toward that.

I don't know what is better, but as stated before, stainless is more prone to cracking, and diesel soot is more lubricative than it is corrosive. I believe the stock mufflers on 1st gens were stainless. Mine had to be welded several times before any of the steel exhaust parts even started to rust - Driven every day in Wisconsin. Hope this helps.

What is the price difference between regular and stainless, and how far would the difference go towards a 2nd regular exhaust system? Just a thought.

316 is the good stuff. I think there is a 416 that is better. i think the first number is strength (maybe carbon) and second number has something to do with nickel (anti rust, etc). Can't remember though. But I know that 316 is way better corrosion wise over 304
