Speedometer not working
As you can see I am brand new to the list. I have found much needed information and I am sure I will find more. The one thing I need help with is my Speedometer. It will not read correctly and jumps up and down it even changes speeds when I shift gears I think 160KPH is a little fast in town. Any ideas ???

Re:Speedometer not working
I have had the same problem and it is a somewhat simple fix, but I noticed you have a 4WD and I am not sure if the same problem would exist, but here it goes.
This is usually a problem with the drive yoke nut being loose on the transmission/xfer case to the output shaft. On my rig the nut was loose allowing the nylon gear inside the transmission to slip as its only held in place by the crush on the output shaft bearing assembly. AS soon as I tightened the nut on the yoke on the tranny, the speedo worked fine.
I hope this helps..Someone with a 4WD please chime in..
BTW.. Welcome to the DTR!!!!

Re:Speedometer not working
:P Well thanks that sounds like the problem. It is a 2 wheel drive so now I just need to get to the nut you are talking about and tighen it. It this a difficult job or can an amature try it??
Thanks

LilDog is right - the problem was first found in 4X4's. The nut holding the yoke on needs to be tight. I can get you the torque specs for it if you need them. You should also use locktite.

Yup, an amature can try it... I did it, but the nut was a metric size, I think it was 21mm or something like that, it was the biggest 1/2" drive socket in my set. I think the torque is around 80 ft-lbs? but I just cranked it and then checked the play each time. I just wanted to make sure that the bearing wasn't binding.
I though it was 4WD as you spec'd it as a W250.. The 2wd are the D250

Re:Speedometer not working
The problem with the speedo can also be caused by the speedo sending unit going bad, in which case it will need to be replaced.
You might as well as well check that the yoke nut is tight first, though, as the other guys recommended.
