Speedo still erratic

I installed a new ratio adapter and it ran the speedo perfectly for a few miles, then back to the waving speed needle and no cruise control after well warmed up. Yesterday I noticed the needle was jumping a bit when stopped with the clutch in. I'm now stumped. When I put the VSS directly on the tranny output without the ratio adapter the speed needle is steady but the speedo runs about 1 1/2 times road speed and the CC doesn't wotk. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who's solved this one.

My speedo gets a little jumpy at low speeds if the threaded collar holding the ratio adapter to the VSS is too tight. In fact, it cannot even be snug. Just threaded on looslely is the only way that allows the speedometer to run smooth all the way up the scale.

Thanks Ace, I'll sure give that a try, .. that's about the only thing I haven't tried. I'll post the result.

Hey Ace, that was it! .... speedo and CC work perfectly with that threaded cap loosened. I put it finger-tite, then backed it about 1/8 turn. I had to put some thread locker on the male threads of the ratio adapter because I get nervous with something that loose that near the Cummins. But it WORKS, thereby solving my biggest problem with the truck. Thanks again Ace, give yourself the rest of the day off
