Speedo/ odometer

A couple of months ago my odo died. (no big deal) Well now my speedo just died to. Does anybody have any experience with fixing this problem. I can just swap the dash out of my 92 temporarily but id like to fix the 91 dash. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Make sure the VSS didn't fall off.

Is that the one that attaches to the us gear/trans that goes from trans-adapter box-cable with spinning cable inside-wiring that procedes to cab? Or do you mean the one at the top of the rear end

Yup, that one. Common problems are that it vibrates loose and falls off, and also that the drive adapter fails.

The dealer or a speedo shop.

You can still get one from Dodge dealers: you need to give your gear ratio, the transmission on your truck - in your case with a US gear you may know the teeth count of your driven gear - and your tire diameter - tire, not rim... then they should know which ratio adapter you need. the part number should be 5300-4220. As always triple-check with your dealer, I've made mistakes before...

Ok well ive narroweed it down. The cable between the us gear and the adapter that changes the cable to 2 wires broke. Now where do i get that. Dodge said i was crazy, cant get in contact with us gear, and napa says take a hike.

It's probably just a short speedometer cable. Ask NAPA to let you look through the speedo cable book.

speedo works but no odometer

My speedometer works fine but the odometer doesn't. Anybody have any ideas. Switched out my whole dash panel with a canadian (kilometer) one and odometer still doesn't work.

They usually have a universal cable that u can cut to length in the help section. You just slide the broken cable out of the sleeve and cut the new one to length and slide it in.

Sounds like you were lucky enough to get another speedo with broken odometer gears. Info on fixing that is in the sticky.

I have the opposite problem. I fixed my Odo a few years back and it's still working fine but my speedo quit now. Odo still ticks over but no speedo. What could be the problem. Please help. I'm using my tach to estimate speed and it sucks to have to try to remember what speed 1500rpm is etc.
Thanks in advance
