Cool Sorry for so many posts, last 1 about hub part...

When I was taking the hub apart, this and the circlip came out separately. Can anyone tell from this pic if the clip is shot? Is this something serious?. Can it cause death wobble?

I am also replacing my front 4x4 u-joints and am thinking about replacing the upper king pin. I understand that they rarely go bad, but since I am in here, may as well. Does this look normal?

Thanks in advance...Mark

Is that a groove or beveled spot on the bottom of the king pin? My kingpin didn't look bad, but like you said, i already had a new one sitting there so i replaced it anyways. The plastic bushing on the king pin was cracked on mine though.

The black thing is part of a seal or something. The pin looks to be in good shape, but, as you said, I have a new one and the tool. Did you have any particular problem getting it out? What did you torque it to? I am having trouble finding this info. Thanks...Mark

First picture looks like the inner snap ring to me. It just fell out? Or you took it out?
And the upper king pin gets 500-600 Ft lbs. (from fsm) I put mine on with a 3' bar and 4' of cheater until I couldn't turn it anymore. Cause my wrench only goes to 500' lbs

It just fell out. Any advice on getting it out? I tried my 2000 ft pound impact and heat...no go. I am thinking about leaving it, it seems good, especially after the impact failed...Mark

Heat, weasel juice, cool, heat, weasel juice, cool, etc. Try that a few times then try and remove it while hot. Put your tool (socket or allen wrench) in the kingpin and give it a good wack with a heavy hammer (down onto the top of the kingpin) this will help break the threads loose. While trying to remove it give the side of the c-knuckle a few good raps with a hammer aswell.

For tightening, get it as tight as you can. Be sure to clean the threads thoroughly on both components, alittle anti-sieze is good too.

Biltit is on the money. All of mine have came out with a little heat and a big braker bar with a cheater on the end of it. A buddy with a pry bar to keep the allen strait helps too.
I don't have a 2000' gun but I do have a 1250' and it didn't even think about spinning it out. Give a bar with a cheater on the end a try. I would replace it if possible since you are already there and have the parts.
It may take a bunch of heat and cool cycles to get it to move.

Yeah, I hear you, I hate not to be able to get it out. I am not in a hurry and I don't think I will damage it if I can't get it out. Think i'll gut it out, thanks...Mark

Well, persistence and a honkin' long cheater bar finally did it, after breaking a 1/2" craftsman breaker bar and bending several pieces of galvanized pipe. tomorrow I will finish the drivers side, move my truck (so that I can use the honkin' long cheater bar ) and get the other side. Thanks you guys for shaming me into replacing the pin. I can sleep tonight knowing that it is all new...Mark Some pics:

Turns out that this:

is apparently the result of the circlip somehow coming off the gear thingy. I have never had this part, apart and I didn't even know that it was there. It seems to be ok:
