So I've gotta plug an oil drain bung... what to use?

Took the twins off my truck, the baby single is almost in... but I need to figure out how to cap off the oil drain bung that I welded into my pan for the 2nd turbo. This little guy, right here:

If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure it's about 1" OD. What can I used to plug it? Anything that a local car parts store will sell me? I was thinking of something similar to a huge vacuum line plug would work, but it needs to withstand heat and maybe a little bit of oil sloshing on it. I'd like something that I can just put on and secure with a hose clamp. Any ideas are appreciated!!

How about an internal expanding plug, it looks like the freeze out plugs with the rubber puck and the steel backing plate that some use to replace hard to reach freeze plugs? I use a small one on the power steering reservoir on my backhoe, they have them at Tractor Supply.

That is exactly what I was thinking. If you can cut off the end that is "rolled" so the internal plug seals better (with a tubing cutter so no chips go in the pan).

Try to get an expansion plug like an old Thermos Bottle plug.

You might be able to find a suitable plug at your local Boat Shop ask them for a Transom Drain Plug, they are expandable when you flip the lever.

I think even Wal Mart has them.

Or check your local HVAC Supplier and see if they have any Test Plugs.

I have removed rubber plugs from the suction line from new compressor that were about 7/8” –1” O.D.

I could be wrong but that looks like it could be used for more crank case venting. route some hose on it.

^^^ What he said; or, you have the pan off, right ??

If so, weld a pipe coupler on there and plug with a pipe plug.

Other than that, just clamp on a short section of hose with a bolt of appropriate size clamped in the hose.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The pan is in the truck now. I may just plug it with the hose/bolt idea... but then again the crank case vent is also a good idea!

Ya I can understand that. How hard would it be to take out. Wouldn't you wanna do it right so no problems later?

It's a pretty big pain. A plug will work fine, all it has to seal is the occasional bit of oil splashing on it, if even that. Then, I'm selling the truck.
