So I spent 6 hours yesterday trying to mate the 360 to the engine...

pull out the pilot Bering and see if it slides on the end of the drive shaft . it may be out slightly and thats all you need use a old coat hanger with a hook times two and pull it out of the truck and remove all excess grease you want a nice thin coating of moly slip or coppa slip anti seize on it then see if it fits .

You need to find an input shaft so you can check the pilot and align the splines. Also make sure you don't have a bunch or grease packed into the pilot hole. Should go in first try.

HA!
I've pulled out and put in enough trans to know it NEVER goes in first try.
But you're right...this is getting ridiculous.
When I get home from work today, I'm going to have a pal help me try pressing the clutch. If that fails, I guess I'll yank the bellhousing, pull off the clutch/flywheel and try the bearing over the input shaft.
First try...man.

Well, I got home from work today, got under the truck, got the tranny up where it was within an inch of mated (input shaft against the bearing), attached the clutch and waited. Cousin came down, hopped in the truck and pushed the clutch (Thanks, Doug!). I gave it a shove and it went in immediately. Ridiculous!
Got that bolted in, bolted in the crossmember, bolted up the transfer case, and called it a day. Oh, and had him help me get the shifter stub in.
So, tomorrow all I have to do is come home, fill the transfer case, attach the 4x4 shifter parts, attach the shifter boots and the driveshafts and take her for a drive.
Whew. I feel good.

Glad you got it done, ... these are probably the toughest size to do, way heavier than car ones but not heavy enough for us to get the special lifting rigs like for the heavy trucks
