so i blew my rear end out. help with dana 80

so i blew it up.. still drives but noisy. i can buy a LOW MILE dana 80 dually for 200. 3.54 gears with limited slip. i measured the track with and the dually is about 2 inches wider in all then my 70. on this link http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/axle/286RBI_specs.html
they say "Dana 80 2500 axles and 3500 axles are identical except for the outer wheel spindle and hub assembly. " so it would still be worth $200 huh??

i need to get my truck back on the road asap..

my questions are

1. will it bolt up to my leafs?

2. do i have to use a special u-joint or a different driveline?

3. will my master cylinder handle the bigger brakes?

i think thats it. anything you can tell me id appreciate it.

Yes it will bolt up,but the 80 spring perches are 3 inches wide and your springs are 2.5.Tha 80 axle tubes are bigger so your bottom plates from your 70 won't work, you will also have to make shock mounts since they are on the bottom plate. The u-joint will fit right up.I never had a problem with my master cylinder. If you can get an 80 ready to go for $200,it would be well worth the couple small things you have to change to make it work.

well i have the leaf springs and all that junk for them. the shock mounts are no issue for me. im excited because this has a sway bar and ive been wanting to put one on because i just bought a cab over camper.

also are the SRW and DRW hubs the same? the only reason i ask is cause people are talking about the rear ends being wider in general and this one is only a little over 2 inches wider so would it be worth finding the SRW hubs?

When I had an 80 in my 250 you could hardly see the offset difference,i'm pretty sure it was a single wheel rear but that was a couple of years ago.If you use the leaf springs off the 80 you will have to change your mounts on your truck frame.

drolex, your rear on that 2500 should actually be a 70, as the transmission is auto.

Yep, only the 5spd trucks have the Dana 80.

1. The short version yes, but you're going to have to do some fabrication. The center bolt on your spring pack is smaller, I made a bushing for mine when I did it. I also narrowed the spring perch on the axle and reenfored it so I don't fold the front of the perch down with axle wrap. Made my own lower plates and had new 5/8" U-bolts made for it.

2. Just shorten the drive shaft about 2".

3. Master cylinder will be fine.

You'll have to come up with your own shock mounts. I flipped the drivers side shock mount forward and welded a 3/4" bolt in there to hold the lower part of the shock.

I think you should try to locate the SRW hubs for that 80. The 2nd gen trucks have a wider track as it is. The wheels will be sticking out about 5/16" wider on both sides with the SRW hubs. Add an inch to that both sides and I'll have a funny looking waddling wide load rear end. Other than tires sticking way out past the fenders, you'll be better off with a cabover camper and that wider track...

Thanks for your help so far. Do you think its possible to buy new SRW hubs so I don't have to search for them? Also would I have to change the brakes? I figure dually drums are bigger. Maybe ill just get the hubs and convert it to disk. But then ill need a porportioning valve. If I change to SRW hubs will the axle shafts still fit?
