Snubbers vs. Needle Valves

Snubbers vs. Needle Valves
I'm gathering parts for installing a fuel pressure gauge. I have a mechanical 35 PSI gauge and the tapped banjo is on order. I still need to pick up a shut-off valve from the hardware store.
The question is, do I want a non-adjustable snubber (like Wannadiesel uses) or a needle valve to dampen the pulsations? What are the advantages? What do you use? What else do I need before I start the install?

I just put a shut off valve made for pex plumbing. I found in my case it does not pulse at all no matter where the valve is set. My lift pump is wore out. I only see 4 to 4.5 psi. Maybe thats why it does not pulse.

I like the needle valve best since I have fuel plumbed directly to the gauge. If the gauge were ever to start leaking (hasn't in over five years) I would be able to simply close the needle valve, which I couldn't do with a snubber.

get a oil pressure gauge kit it has 7 feet of copper line and all of the fittings for $7 some gauges have built in snubber just hook it up first and start the motor if it vibrates add the snubber. we run a fleet and have installed probably 50+ of them unless you are running a fass you will like a lower psi gauge we found some sw 16 psi fuel pressure gauges from surplus center for $6 i bought 10 of them i used the last one about six months ago the vp44's run about 16 psi max the cr's run about 7 psi so a 15 psi gives mid scale readings look at northern hydraulics glycerin filled gauges i think they are about $8 this gives the total cost of $15 for kit and gauge

The piston pumps must create a pretty wicked pressure wave. Mine has three feet of rubber hose, a needle valve and a snubber. The gauge will not stay steady unless the needle is just barely cracked open.

I didn't like the copper line I had for my boost gauge, I would break it or crush it, and it is a pain to try to redo the end. That and it transmitted vibrations into the cab. I have some clear vinyl hose for the fuel pressure, its neat to be able to see whats in the hose and what it is doing.
