Side to side paly on turbo shaft - dial indicator?
I replaced the stock impeller with a GDS 60mm and noticed some side to side play on the shaft. The truck has been sitting there for a couple of months so the oil film that lubricates the bearings/shaft has been gone for some time, which may or may not increase the play (?). I was thinking about setting a dial indicator to check how much play there is. Does anyone know the tolerance?
Anyone's experience with similar issue?

The right way to check the bearing clearance is to go Thur the oil drain. Witch means you need to bend up an end to fit your dial indicator. Push the shaft from both sides compressor and turbine to the DI zero the DI pull shaft back in the same plane as the DI to give you the bearing clearance. you can do the same thing by putting the DI on the compressor wheel but you still need to move the CW and TW in the same plane to get your clearance reading moving just one end will give you a false reading I think . 004-.005 would be about right. Yes, if the oil has completely drained it might feel a little sloppy. The general rule is that if you cannot make the wheels touch the housings than it's OK. That is the side to side play. The in and out or thrust should be non-existant. The book shows both measurements being taken at the compressor end.
Here is the Holset specs for the H1C:
Side to side: 0.012" to 0.018"
Thrust: 0.001" to 0.005"
