Should I paint my rebuilt VE
Pump I took in for a rebuild was painted black. The shop I took it to doesn't paint. Any reason to paint? The only reason I can see to paint would be rust prevention. Your thoughts.

I would not paint it especially when your power steering seal should blow some lubricant it's way to prevent the rust from setting in! I couldn't keep seals in my 93 so I just let it leak and added fluid every once in a while (weekly)

I am soon gonna be painting a few, unless those wiser than me give me good reasons not to.

Painting the pump will prevent the oxidation (white crap) that builds up on aluminum, but other than that it won't help or hurt anything. If you want to paint it, paint it. If you don't feel like it, don't bother.

NO! In event of warranty failure, the rebuilder would probablly give you grief.

I'm with dozer, aluminum color is cool. Gives it the 'hey, I'm new and rebuilt' look on the motor. Plus there won't be any paint to chip off and flake into your pump when you pull the top cover to do a gov spring or whatever. Paint is messy when you start taking things apart or off.
