Short bed?

hey-Hey!!!,
What is needed to put a short bed on a D250? I suspect it isn't as easy as just taking out a section of frame...enlighten me please.
cheers,
Douglas

I think something has to be done with the gas tank as well. Plus the obvious shortening of the driveshaft and exhaust. Probably need to shorten the brake hard lines and e-brake lines too. Basically anything that goes past where you are cutting needs shortened.

I'll be finding out in the next month or 2 though.

If you were close enough I'd volunteer to assist. That looks like a fine project.

hey-Hey!!!,
So here is the justification... I want to put on a step-side bed and make a Li'l Red Express Truck with a 3/4 ton chassis and a Cummins. The gold decals are available, and the stack is then perfectly justified. I suspect I'd use Porsche Guards Red instead of the OE colour.
cheers,
Douglas

After I make some good runs with the 5 speed I'll be swapping to an auto and dropping down to a short bed as well. Already running a fual cell, so when I have to cut the driveshaft for the auto I might as well do the short bed swap then too, and mini tubs for some 31x16 slicks. The 28x14.50's fit good, but I'll need more traction with auto boosted launches.

I'm sure youve already seen the P pump powered lil red express? I saw it the first time at diesel nationals 2008 and it was awesome!!!

That is the exact reason I'm going to be doing my short bed when I am, except I'm converting to a manual

hey-Hey!!!,
So I've read that the 3/4 ton front suspension will bolt onto a half-ton frame. Will the cummins bolt into the 1/2-ton frame? Is the cross member and mounts the same? This for an '81 to '88 gasser? I know that there were some frame upgrades for the Cummins trucks, but this isn't going to be used for much past passenger car service.
cheers,
Douglas
