Shift Stick Question

I've seen several First Gens with a bent stick and some with a straight stick! How did they come from the factory? Mine has a straight stick and to go to fifth gear is a real stretch! Can you bend these? Sorry for the ignorance, I just know i've seen both and knew someone on here would be able to help! Thanks!

OEM is straight. Yep you just need to pick a spot to bend it, then heat it up and set it to your preference.

93s are an oddball lot- they do have a bent stick, and attach with 2 bolts at the bottom, similar to the NV4500.

RF- yours is a custom job- it isnt bent at the right place to have a 93 tranny.

Take it off, Heat it and bend it. Then repaint. Took about 2 hours to do including the rattle can paint.

I have both an 89 and a 90 Getrag that both have the threaded-on straight stick.

The NON-I/C 91 has the slabbed-together bolted stick and it is factory original with two bends.

On my Ford/Cummins/Getrag, I made my stick from a length of Schedule-40 1/2"(I think??) pipe.

I welded a stack of big metric nuts into one long nut and threaded this onto the threaded stub that sticks up from the transmission.

I welded a length of metric threaded rod inside one end of the pipe, such that this pipe/rod screws into the stack of nuts; a lock-nut keeps everything still.

I made the bends on an exhaust-pipe bender with whatever size collets happened to be on it at the time; it formed to the shape I wanted on the first try.

One thing for certain, my custom-built shifter is a lot more user-friendly than either of the factory ones, straight or crooked.

My 93 has a bolt on bent stick. The dealer had a few options between bent and straight sticks when I ordered mine. My new stick that I ordered from the dealer in April finally came last month.

My original stick was loose and cracked when I rebuilt the trans in March. I welded up the crack and epoxied it on where the rubber insulator is. Problem was I glued it on in the wrong position. I had to be carefulley about what size cup was in the cup holder otherwise I would bash my hand while shifting into 2nd and 4th. There is a guy at work with an 89. I should see how much different his is.

our 91 non i/c has a straight stick.

and so did our 92 w250, both had perfectly straight sticks.

You never know, someone could have bent the stick before you bought the truck, these trucks are old and go through alot over the years...
