mine is back together and running. I used ATF+3 (Chrysler 7176) even with the shift kit installed it seill feels like oatmeal between shifts, of course having 300K+ on the stock tranny has NOTHING to do with it.

On a brighter note, its amazing what a working (not wobbly) Rooster comb will do for the feel of the shift linkage!

Which kit did you get, the $25 or $80? How did you set the kit up? To shift hard? Was it worth the money you spent on it?

Shifts seem to be the same, of course I havent towed with it yet.

I also changed the fluid from Dexron to ATF+3, so that could have something to do with the quality of the shify.

Also this tranny still has a stock converter and over 300K on it

A good shift kit comes with several differant springs, shows you how to set line pressure, you must drill out several holes in the valve body to let more fluid move quicker and faster etc....A good shift kit /install will make a big differance on a stock truck!! The best thing of all is to get more line pressure and make the bands and torque convertor hold tighter. You need to adjust the tv cable or linkage to get full pressure at full throttle. This will make your shifts at higher rpm.

The kit from TransGo I talk about has all that. The cheap EBay kit he speaks of, . . . . . . I dunno.

I was going to get the $80 kit. I believe it will make a sizable difference
