She was fast !!!!

Well on the way home from Pheonix returning to Tucson tonite me and the wife were past by a 92/93 duelly 4x4 with a utility bed on it the cab was clean looking however the bed had the normal junk like a welder, tanks, and equimpment so she was no lite weight. We were in her little Neon and clipping on at about 85mph when out of the corner of eye "IT" turns on the coals with a little haze from the tail pipes passes us at over 100mph I tell the wife "LOOK AT THIS" and I decide to follow along her car is flat out and were drafting,This is 90+ miles from Pheonix/Tucson this truck never let up the hole way. My 93w3504x4 5spd quits at 80mph whats he got in that "BEAST" I want some ???

Try adjusting your high idle screw, and make sure you get full linkage travel with the pedal on the floor. When you adjust the high idle, make sure the screw is still the stop, not the pump internals. I know mine will do 70 in 4th now. ;D

Re:She was fast !!!!

Before I put in the 3200 governor spring. I could hit 95 with the high idle adjusted all the way in. After the governor spring was put in, I dont know how fast I can go. The fastest I have had it was about an inch past the 100mph mark racing a late model PSD. EGTs bottomed out and boost maxed.

In 4th, I can hit 75mph very quickly.

Re:She was fast !!!!

I guess you could say neither one of us did. I was in the passing lane and a car was coming so I had to slide in front of him in the other lane. Maintained speed limit and we went our seperate ways. The guy lives a couple miles down the road. I believe he has a 60 or 80hp box on it, it would move.

Re:She was fast !!!!

I have hit 90 before in my auto but I don't know how accurate the speedo is. what does it mean when you say get full throttle linkage movement? how do you know if you are not getting this? My truck does not smoke much but it runs really good.

Re:She was fast !!!!

To check for full throttle movement, have somebody get in the truck and hold the accelerator to the floor - engine off, of course. Watch to make sure that the throttle arm hits the end of the high idle screw - that's the screw closest to you when you're standing by the fender looking at the pump. If you're not getting full travel, figure out why and fix/adjust as required. Also, the high idle screw is rarely set to its full speed position. You can rip the tamper proof cover off the end and adjust for higher speed, just make sure that the screw is still stopping the throttle arm, not the pump internals. Like I said, mine will do 70 in 4th now, 235/75 tires and no governor spring. I don't know how fast it will go in 5th.
