Seat rail mod

I don't know if anyone has done this but I made some blocks and lifted my bench seat up. The blocks measure 2 1/4" wide , 13" long by 2.25" at one end and 1.75" at the other. I used some seasoned treated pine(hard) 2x4 and 1x4 sandwiched together. I installed them under my seat rails, short side to the rear. This gave me 5-10 degrees more recline and raised the seat up to comfortably bolster my legs. It also has the added benefit of increasing visibility in all directions. I am 6' tall and this was near perfect height. What gave me the idea was I sat in a 2nd gen and noticed the seat height. I still have 5" of headroom left. Its a great mod for you guys who drive a bunch of miles.

Cool! I sit on a pile of old sweatshirts right now for the same effect, hehe. Hoping to get a 2nd gen bench one of these days.

And I thought I was the only one that did anything like that. The previous owner installed the 2nd gen. seat from an extended cab in my pickup. It is so high I have to bend down to look out the driver's side window and I am only 5 feet 9 inches tall. It ain't that bad but it is a little to high for me. One of these days, if I live so long, I will mod the seat frame and get it out of the nose bleed section. He put the front on 2.5 inch blocks to get it level, but the back of the frame is resting on the floor board.

The most difficult part of this project was cutting off the old seat studs and drilling them out. It took 15 minutes to do that. I used carrage head bolts about 4" and tack welded them in for convenience.

Mine looks stock as a rock. I think I would reduce the size by 1/2" as its tad high after driving a while. I do stuff like this all the time. Its not that its jury rigged, its modified.

Boat nik can you post a pic of you seat and rails. I'm curious about fitment.
