saving the clock spring/ pulling the steering wheel

I am pulling the steering wheel on a 1st gen and was wondering if there was any hint I should know about pulling a steering wheel and saving the clock spring?
Thanks,
Oliver

Hey bud,

From what I've read, just don't turn it. Leave the key out so it can't rotate.

Well, the steering wheel and the clockspring are two seperate pices, so once you pop the wheel off, the clock spring is underneathe it. You can just pull that off to if you disconnect the wire harness that plugs into it.

Make sure the wheels are straight, pull the steering wheel. Then use a piece of tape across the clockspring to keep it from turning (don't cover the 2 "button"s with tape). You will need to pull the upper/lower steering column cover pieces (ignition/turnsignal pieces). There is a clip for the Clockspring that needs undone(the reason you have to pull the lower steering column cover). Then push in on both clockspring "buttons" to release it. Pull it off and set it aside. DO NOT spin the clockspring.
