No cardboard, I do, however, have the LUND grille inserts and I usually pull the fan off in October.

In fact I just put it back on yesterday.

At -40* heat is not exactly stellar until I've been running down the highway for 20 min and 2 min of idle will drop it from 175* to 120*. An aftermarket heater core would help but the stock one ain't leakin' (if it ain't broke.......)

I need to get a real winter front for the truck and not just the inserts so I can block off more flow.

I've considered swapping places with the rad and heater core but the plumbing would be tricky.

finally getting a little closer to finishing the install, did some cad drawings today to run on the cnc burning machine. i going to cut out a bhaf mount or 2 and a intake plate for ontop of the grids to use 3 inch piping from the intercooler, my own custom cooler tubes

I wasn't so lucky on the '49 Studebaker pick-up I used to have. I was driving it home from the paint shop and right after I pushed in (or was it pulled out) the overdrive cable and got up to top speed. It was a wopping 52 mph with the 5.83 rear end and flat head commander engine. This time the safety catch did not work so I had to deploy the secondary safety, which was the front of the cab above the windshield. Sorta folded the hood back a little. So much for new paint. In the Studbucket you could not see under the hood when it was up. All I could do was look out the driver's window and ease to the right and "feel" for the gravel.

that would not be fun, but with the newer style latches it doesn't seem to happen, or at least you don't hear about it anyway

well finally got the intake plate cut out for on top if the grids and all hooked up but, only drove it six miles so testing hasn't really been done yet. but with the 3 inch tube comming from the front instead if across the top of the engine makes it look cleaner under the hood, now i have to take pics.

When I did my PS intercooler install I cut a v shaped notch in the safety latch, then I welded back to gether. The gave the latch a tighter radius. I then had to move the header panel notch back slightly. I can get pictures when I get home.

I also did my intercooler install different then most, mine is inverted from the orginal Ford orientation. The cooler tubes that one of the DTR members makes are a great buy and they are 3"

I also installed my PS cooler inverted from original installation. And it fit tight up against the core support. I completely removed the original brace in the latch area and installed a 1/4" plate in place. I was able to reuse the stock brace in front of the ac condenser that also holds the lower valence in the middle. I only had to trim about 1/2" off the lower valence. No trimming of grill at all. I then used the secondary hood latch from a Jeep Cherokee bolted to my 1/4" plate and it grabs the bar on the hood that the regular latch uses.
