s300g

I did the 60mm compressor upgrade and am not totally happy with it. At higher elevations (8000-10,000 feet) I still have to be very carefull with egt's and I still have more black smoke than I would like. This is with stock injectors and pump. Is the small ~13cm exhaust housing be too restrictive on the s300g to be a good choice for towing. Thanks

Wait you have to watch EGT's with stock injectors and NO pump tweaks????

Thats weird, i have a feeling you have a boost leak my friend.

I know even living at sea level that 10,000 is HIGH but you have an intercooler and a decent turbo setup. something is not right.

i think you need to pressurize your intercooler and check for leaks.. maybe check your intercooler boots for dry rot holes and such.

I'd go for a Super HX40 over an S300G. If I recall correctly, they are near the same price.

Here is a link to a map chart comparing a 62mm S300 to a Super HX40.

I believe thats what you want. Right Parker?

You'll have to run a 4" downpipe and exhaust but thats all part of the fun, I think thats gonna be more effective than the S300G (not dissin on it), If i remember right RichieO has one and his truck with a p/s Intercooler gets a little toasty still.

also, S300G = BD super B turbo

I did check the intercooler and boots, charged with 35PSI it took a few hours to leak down to nothing so I think I'm good there. I do have to admit that the last time I had my injectors cleaned and pop tested he said they were due to be replaced or rebuilt because the nozzles were preyyt well worn. I expect to put in some bosch 190's or the low HP DDP injectors in the near future.

In the thread it mentioned that the hx40 was prone to shaft breakage when barked. What causes barking? Does the s300 have a stronger/larger shaft? Thanks.

Barking is when you floor it and let off real quick and you hear the WOO WOO WOO sound.

you need alott of fuel and boost to break a shaft with a VE pump truck. don't worry about it.

guy on CF with a 93 put down 408HP with his hx40 and big inj. and it was fine, even with a 5 speed

the s300g you don't have to worry about that. the hx40 shares the same shaft as the hx35 and the hx40 has a bigger exh. turbine wheel so its prone to break on like p pumper overfueled trucks. it will work good in your application.

If you know the right people, they can be had for cheaper than that.

From my conversation with Brian, the only people who have had trouble with even a regular HX40 are P-Pump guys who have no business running a turbo that small for their application anyways.

I wouldn't worry one bit about breaking the shaft on a regular HX40, let alone a Super HX40.

For me, Brian Block.

Like Matt said, a good friend who has a shop, or can get discounts on parts can get them for cheaper than that.

Mod's, if the following statement is considered advertising, I apologize, and feel free to delete it.

I know on dieselbombers they have a section where you can post what you need, and a PM gets sent out to all the vendors. They can sometimes have deals on items as well.

So if I went to a local diesel perf. shop I could get PDR's Super HX40 for cheaper than 1100?

The reason i posted that is because the modifcations PDR does to it and the fact its brand new.

Generally people who have their own shops can get turbos, and other parts for a lot cheaper than a website will sell it to all of "us."

I'm not sure if you can get the PDR Super HX40, but i know of people getting super HX40's for around $800-$900. Do you know exactly what they do to make their turbos special? I'm sure it's not worth the price difference though.
