S300-V? another curious variable turbo try out

Well my buddy got an S300-V from his brother off a newer John Deere tractor. I guess they put a new one on a tractor and found out later that the turbo was not the problem, I'm not sure what model of tractor it was off of though. He said I could try it out if i wanted to since he's buyin a spare HE351CW from me. The turbo seems in ok shape, spins free and has very little shaft play. I pulled the compressor housing off to measure and its a 60mm incucer and it has a billet compressor wheel. We did some research on the internet and some said it had a billet titanium compressor wheel, and that these turbos were found on 2004 and newer john deeres, and some international DT466 applications as well. A new one had a pricetag of over $3000. Heres a few pics, I could take more with measurements if I find the time but here is a few to give an idea.

I'm kind of familiar with variable turbos but never really deeply looked into them. I figured for a free try out it might be worth seein what it would do if I could control it. It has a different exhaust flange to bolt to the manifold but I'm sure I could build an adapter easy enough. But as for a controller I'm not sure what to try. Could I run a tps again and get the voltage signal from the tps to control the controller? or would I better off using a spring and running it off drive pressure or have a locking cable run into the cab and have it manually controllable? or what have others done that have worked best?

If you could figure out how to write a program with inputs from your engine that would be very trick. You would spend a bunch of money doing that though. Cheap way out would be like the guys with 6.7 vgt's and use drive pressures and boost pressures to move the exhaust housing. Seems like it is working good for most.

I know my neighbor was scanning a friends 6.7 turbo while running and recording the can-bus (I think) codes so he could maybe come up with a controller for a vgt turbo he had to put on his 12 valve. This was all beyond my knowledge but I know he was trying to come up with something. I need to bug him again to see if he found anymore out.

So as far as just trying this turbo out I may just use drive pressure or a cable and take the controller off for sake of being simple. If it works, cool, if not oh well.
