RWAL Diagnostics: Help me identify where to start with #7 error code.

My anti-lock AND parking brake lights have been on and off for a while now, and I finally salvaged a controller behind the glove box from a gracious local member and the parking brake light went off with that change, but the anti-lock is still on. I grounded the plug behind the dash today and got the #7 code:

-Electronic control module fuse pellet open, isolation output missing, or valve wiring shorted to ground.

Can someone explain the module fuse pellet, and isolation output missing parts? Just looking for some guidance as I plan to start with the wiriing out of the valve first.

Thanks!

OK, I did some more searching, and am now confused on exactly what code I am getting. The light stays on for about 3 seconds, then blinks 7 times, then stays on for about 3 seconds then 7 blinks, etc. I found one post that says you don't count the first 3 second blink, and then another post said you do count it. That said, I am not sure if I am getting a code 7 or 8.

7-Electronic control module fuse pellet open, isolation output missing, or valve wiring shorted to ground

8-Dump output missing or valve wiring shorted to ground

I would probably start checking the plugs at the dump valve and at the pickup in the rear axle. Pull them apart make sure they're not corroded broken, etc...

I'll do just that this afternoon. I did replace the wire that runs from the rear axle sensor to the dump valve about a year ago with a brand new one from Dodge.

Checked those plugs and all was good. Like I stated earlier I got a new dodge cable about a year ago, so I was pretty confident that would check out.

Can someone please answer if you could the long flash? I am still unsure if I am getting a code 7 or 8.

flash

ignore the long flash, its a pause between readouts, from what you say, the code is a seven, check the ecm power, ill read the abs code and give you a follow up

power supply abs

im looking at fuse 9 is 4wd ind. fuse 2 brake ind, fuse 6 hazard, the way it describes a fuse pellet, sounds like they installed an internal protection fuse, in the control module, if you get it open, the circuit board will be printed with part identifications, look for "fuse" on the board, check for continuity, if you cant get the abs box open, let me know, ill rip mine apart.

Thanks Sooty! I had my old module open about a month ago just looking for the typical burn marks etc that might be on a piece of circuitry like that and did not see a fuse anywhere, but I'll go back and check. Fuse Pellet is not a term I was familar with. Can you expound on its meaning?

fuse

in common electronic circuit boards, they can look like a diode, a resistor, or a typical glass fuse, observing the printed wiring on the board, the fuse should be near to the supply connector, youll see the parts numbered, and named, on the board, near the installation holes their soldered to. if you cant make it out, email a pic, or give me the go to rip mine out to dissect the circuit, joe.

Thanks Joe - I had a family emergency last night that kept me from checking this out. That said, I plan to look tonight.

If this fuse on the board is blown, is it going to be replaceable?

fuse

yes, it will have a number, or color/value, but you can resolder anything comparable, just dont up the amperage

I dove into this over the weekend, and I could not locate anything on the board that appeared to be blown, however, under the lid did not contain a schematic like I had hoped for. You were talking about that being on the lid of the box right?

fuse

no, on the pc board, its printed with part identifications, look at a resistor, part number might say R23, might be 30 resistors numbered, look at the board, under the parts, closer to the connector of the board, to i.d. the fuse, should say fuse on the pc board, jj.

I must have a black market unit! LOL

Nothing is identified on the board - there's some writing right by the connection, but thats it.
