Redine c-plus atf in a518

Hi everyone, hate to make my first post about a subject that has been talked about so much. I will start off by saying i just purchase a one owner 1993 w350 from a family friend, It has 80,000 on the clock and has been sitting for a few years but purrs like a kitten. I am looking to do all of the maintainence before putting it on the road. in my owners manual it suggests an atf type 7176, seems everyone else is running atf3 or 4 or merc dex whatever. I was on summit and they carry redline c-plus synthetic atf for 7176, i really would like to run an atf that they recommend. So does anyone have any experience with this fluid is there something better for my A518. Thanks

Atf 4+ did not exist when the a518 was in service. I think the redline formula is closer in viscosity to Diii. 4+ was invented to handle converter lockup shudder.

Sounds like it'll work. Any fluid will work in the A518, the problem is the pump. If you have really thick fluid, the pump volume goes way down and lubrication is starved from the components that need it. Heat = wear.

Beyond that, you have to worry about other parts so you don't want something to light.

My transmission shop (NATCO) uses AmZoil ATF fluid. Mine's still nice and red after 40,000 miles, some of em pretty extreme.

never ran that specific fluid but I ran redlien D4 for all of 3000 easy miles in my 4l60e- severe shudder, and slipped shifts. Dropped the pan and full of "clutch powder"
Fluids like that may work a little too good.....

I would run the normal atf4 or low vis John Deere hygard before I would run any other synthetic.
