rear wheel BROKE off....
Guys i have a first get truck and can't explain what happened... the rear passenger tire broke off... i promise the lugs were torqued!
This is my 1992 D250 that i converted to rear disc. when the wheel came off the weight of not only my truck but the other 1st gen i was hauling landed on the disc setup (65-70mph). The disc, bracket, caliper are destroyed and the hub is pretty chewed up around the outside edge.... Through the grace of God I had purchased a second set of brackets for another disc conversion that has yet to happen. Family that apparently loves me is already on there way to me with the brackets and rest of the tools i need to finish the job. the local parts store is set to open at 8am so i will get started then. here is my question...
The outer edge of the hub is pretty chewed up but is there a way to see if it's good, can i file it down so the edges aren't "rolled" out?
I need the torque spec for the rear hub nut... i know it's torque ?? then back off ?? degrees.
Is there anyone local that wants to skip church and help me fix this?
Happy to be alive in Winona

I am sorry to hear this happened!! It sounds like you are ok,, It must have been a shakey expirence!!!
How many times did you tourque the lugs? If only once when you installed the disc set up, That may be the issue, You have reset the lugs, and the break in of the set up worked itself in a bit and over a short time, everything will settle a bit whick may have resulted in the lugs all being loose in some extent or another,,, Whenever I have installed new lugs, I have found that after a couple of days, I can tighten all the lugs a bit!
I am not sure about the hub and axle specs, I am sure someone here will chime in shortly!
Peter.

glad you are ok as well, hope the family brings some jeans for ya too, I know I would need a new pair after that! I just might go out and re hit the nuts on my truck after doing brake pads yesterday, just in case.

Once you get safely back home, I'll be curious to find out exactly what "broke". My first though was that the center broke out of your wheel or that the lugs sheared but I can't tell from your description. What was the weak link?
Glad you're still shiny-side-up and breathing.

Well guys I am home safe. I really think it confused the tow truck driver when I had him take me to the hotel and drop the truck off with only a hub and mangled mess of a brake system for a rear passenger corner! lol. In the moment i didn't get any good pictures but i will post a picture of the brake rotor. I will also go into more detail as to what i think caused the problem. For right now my son is back down for a nap so i am going to try to catch up a little! more to come soon....
