Rear fuid in drums

So I drove 480 miles to Boatniks and back yesterday (23mpg ) and today noticed the rear wheel was wet. I took the beauty ring off and found rear fluid covering the rim. I took the tire off and the rear drum was wet So I pulled the axle to check the brakes and the shoes and inside of the drum was bone dry I am going to change the rear drum as it is thin and out of round (high spot when spun) So where is this rear fluid coming from? It looks like it starts between the drum and bearing hub- (where they bolt together) And by the way my vibrations are still there(see previous post-rotor did not fix it)

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated,
Michael

Sounds like the rear seal to me. When you pull the drum off, the seal is at the very back in the hub.

Sounds like it's leaking between the axle flange and the hub. What are you using to seal that area? I use RTV, but there are gaskets available.

Did your drum have the tapered cup in the center that is designed to flow any seepage from the inner seal out of the drum and down the wheel? If so then is it wet? If it is then it's the inner seal .If not then it must be from the outer gasket as wanna says.

That area is dry- and I am still using the copper gasket that was on there from when I got the truck.

KB440- When that seal let go on the other side it got the shoes and drums soaked with fluid.

It looks like it is leaking between the hub (where the bearings are) and the actual drum. I have never taken one of them apart.

Thanks for the help.

That's exactly how mine looked and there was no axle lube on the inside (on the shoes). Replace the seal and all is good.

Well I checked the axle vent and cleaned it out ala BC (thanks) and checked the fluid level and was good.

So, wish me luck. I'll be keeping an eye on it. Thanks for all the help from you guys, you keep my truck going.

Still wish I could find out why my truck is shaking worse than ever when braking. Now I have new front rotors and repacked bearings all the way around. Just a thought, would really bad shocks cause this? I think I still have the original shocks on the truck

Thanks again,
Michael
