rear brake shoe removal?

Like I said before. I haven't worked on this big stuff much. I can do a 1/2 ton GM truck blindfolded but---------- how do I remove the rear brake shoes on this Dana70? there is a pin at the top that is peened over , do i Un-peen it ? or do i just unbolt the whole pin from the backside of the backing plate. I see there is a pin included with the new brake shoes, but it looks short and is not threaded. thanx, crossy
after this ? i'll go back to my village where I'm wanted.

There's no need to remove the anchor pin.

OK before i head back to the village let me make it more clear. I cannot figure out how to remove the E-brake arm and I do want to. First is a large washer than under that is some sort of spring ring. the large washer does not havea key hole in it for removal so what Am I missing here. thanx , crossy

Pry that little snap ring off and you should be able to take the arm off. Neither of my Dodges ever had a washer there.

Sorry for butting in because I don’t have a clue, but will be changing my brake pads in the future. I didn’t think the Dana 70 was going to be much different than other brake drum style braks but am beginning to wonder.

Are you close to a public library? Many of them have a descent collection of Chilton’s or technical manuals.

By the way... do you have a different pic?

thats the one (nut) I was talking about originally, I guess there were different designs. Dave's trucks must have had the 'C' clip thingy instead of a washer. you can open those up and re-close. that would allow the sutuff to come off from front w/o pin removal. got the drums ready for re-install. what a pain to try to find something to drive that new 3.5" seal back in. I'll the brakes done later tonight. gotta go get some tires mounted on mags. got lucky and found some NICE used ones locally. Also have to find a self adjuster cable in stock. one of mine was broke. I'll post NAPA numbers when I'm through. I bought the riveted shoes, hardware spring kit, 1-1/8 wheel cyls, and seals there. Oh and 6' of brake line that i have to make up yet:-( .
thanx, crossy

I meant to say I'll have the brakes done WHENEVER now. I just can't stay on this project, when I'm done I'll post the part numbers. My local parts store has none of the small individual pieces but i found a semi-local NAPA that had everything and better prices to boot. I had to go get the adjuster cables cause one was broken. I also found a spring that doesn't even look like a spring that is originally part of THIS braking system. It was lodged up behind one of the shoes and causing it to drag. this is apparantly what was wrong with this left rear brake all along.,BUT I did need to make up 2 new $6 brake lines so no sense not getting into a $160 brake job while I'm at it crossy

These brakes are such a pain to deal with I replace pretty much everything every time I'm in there.

Seems a shame to put a brake drum on there!

You do realize that's gonna be covered in dust in about 50 miles?
