I get close to the same mpg with 3.54's. I drive from Katy, TX to Houma, LA a few times a month along with several other long trips and as long as I drive VERY nicely and keep my speed a steady 62-63mph on I-10 it averages just over 26mpg. I have no trouble making the 680 mile round trip on 26 gallons.

The electric fans, Bridgstone tires (light) at 65psi, and RP fluids it isnt hard to put up good mpg numbers.

I've never had better than 17.5. But, most of my driving is in the hills - big ones!
Many of the grades I'm pulling the RPMs are 2,000-2,400 at 68mph and boost 13-16 (pretty much stock truck). I'm thinking a better torque converter, Stan's 4" and BHAF would help. If I wanted to take longer to get to work, trying 60mph for a tank would be interesting to see if it makes a difference.
My brother-in-law who has a '05 StuperDuty says he's getting worse mileage since the ULSD fuel.

I checked mine 4 different times, in empty mixed driving, and the worst was 22. The best was 24. However, it seems every time I fuel up, my dollars per gallon figure is dropping like a rock.
I'm thinking hard on finding a 3.07 rear end. It's not hard to imagine a motor with good low-end torque picking up 3 MPG with nearly a half point drop in ratio, at least when driven empty.
Of the critic's 6 trucks, one was a 1st gen. His didn't, so nobody's can?!! It's embarrassing that this guy drives a CTD.

When I bought my '89, the PO told me he got between 21 and 23 mpg pulling a goose neck horse trailer on a regular basis. (5 speed,3.54 gears) The best I have had when checking is 17 mpg with the same trany and 4.10 gears. I know several people with these trucks that get in the mid to upper 20's, and I hope to do the same when I get my gears changed.

seeing as my speedo has never worked, or fuel gauge for that matter, i have no real idea on what im getting for MPG. with that said, i feel im getting **** close to 27. iv got the 3.07s, 5spd, 2wd set up and it will run a long time on just a few gallons of fuel. p.s. i was on one of those speed calculators and found with my set up at 3600 RPMs i can go 148 MPH! im sure the low hp and the brick like shape of these trucks would prevent that, but hey some more mods and a superbird-esk areo package, who knows!

People see what the new trucks get and they can't possibly believe the MPG these trucks get. Same with the HP numbers guys post, hardly anyone I've met outside the realm here will believe the horsepower potential over stock ratings. They have to see it to believe it. Ignorant or stupid, either way I wouldn't waste much time trying to convince them...

the negative comments on this thread are exactly the reason i have never posted some of the mileage i have gotten between chattanooga and atlanta just staying under 70 mph. 21 is an easy mpg to get with my 90 driving almost anyway one wants to. this is interstate hand figured.

I went from Tacoma, WA to Sacremento, CA on one tank of fuel (42 gallon bed tank). Over 800 miles, averaged 21.3 towing an empty 20' boat trailer running 65-68 mph. Got 18.7 on the way home with a jet boat hull (pump installed, no motor). Not a lot of weight but aero drag was up considerably.

Routinely average 17-18 in town IF I drive it nicely .

BTW, I'm running 3.54's and a Getrag

Figured I'd bump up an old old post. This ol 91 is long gone from my hands, and now sits a '12 in its place. I find it interesting that I went from 27-28 mpg hwy to 13 mpg highway. It's an awesome truck and my favorite to date, but I gotta say I sure miss my ol 91 a lot.

my 3rd gen got a 5 mpg boost when I had a 30 mph tail wind. So I believe its possible, especially with a propane setup, high gearing, manual, and good injectors/ turbo

I got a little over 24 MPG once going east (tail wind). I can get in the low 20's on the highway if I am very careful. The POD's and 16cm housing hurt me in the mileage area though, would get much better going to a 12cm, but I like the top end too much!
