how long will our stock engines tolerate 1600F EGTs pre turbo, before bad things happen?
can any damage occur without me knowing it?
my friend drove mine and peaked 1620... for about 4 seconds getting on the highway... it was my fault for not telling him to watch this...
I dont notice any change in performance, but this seems damm hot to me.
any input I appreciate,
thanks, Justin

Naaahhh i wouldnt worry about 4 sec's. If it were more like 20 sec's then maybe but mine truck has had the 1600 mark pegged more times then i will ever care to count. However it has never been held there for more then 15 sec or untill the speedo is pointing straight down. And its still purrrrrriiiinnnn like a kitten.

In a 1/8 mile i peg mine after about 100 yards, thats with W/M on full. Iv had no ill effects but it only stays that high for 8.3 seconds. I wouldnt worry if the run is under 10 seconds, it just doesnt have time to do damage.

Pegged at 1600 almost instantly in 4th and 5th, for as long as I care to hold the pedal down. I hit scary speeds too fast to do any harm, a run up to 85-90 has the pyro pegged for less than 10 seconds total.

thats good news...
what are the general guide lines when towing or pulling a pass?
i read somewhere that the 12valve is rated 100% duty cycle at 1250 degrees. is this true and is there a graph or somethng that gives duty cycle vs temp...
obviously, these can take alot for short burst, but what about sustained.
thanks for the replies

i try not to go over 1250 for a long period of time. i normally have to worry about my trans temps before my egts when towing but that is just because of my sloppy torque converter.
