Well, I've got some more fuel coming in the mail so I figure it's about time to move my pyro to the manifold. My question is, what size drill do I need? I ran a 1/4'' tap down the threads in the downpipe, so my pyro must be 1/4'' NPT, right? I'm gonna hog the 12cm as much as I can while it's off, too. My air supply is still woefully inadequate, but I think I'm just gonna keep saving my pennies for an HTB2. Then I'll be DONE riiiiiiiight....

My probe is 1/8 npt,drill size is an R, i have never seen one a 1/4 but then i havent seen everything.

Loch: My pyro/boost gauge is an older isspro. I think the gauge is from a big rig---it's a 3'' face with 300-1500 degrees on one side and 0-40 psi on the other. A 1/4'' NPT tap threaded right into where the pyro goes, so that's what I gotta use...just not too sure on the drill size.

The manifold is a little small for a 1/4 pipe thread hole. My pyro has a 1/4 NPT thread. So this is what I did:

I drilled and threaded for 1/8 NPT.

Then I screwed in a 1/8 nipple with a 1/8 to 1/4 female adapter on the nipple.

The probe on the 1/4 pyro was small enough to pass through the 1/8 nipple and long enough to end up in the manifold.

I did this to keep from having to buy a $35 probe.

I was afraid that the necessary hole for the 1/4 NPT would weaken the manifold in a place that is already weak.

Thanks Bearkiller! I never thought of that, but sounds like the safer way to go. What kind of fittings should I buy? Can I get them at a hardware store?

Hardware store stuff will be fine. Use iron, not brass. Take your probe and make sure it will fit. A 1/8" close nipple (that's the one that's threaded its whole length) and a 1/8" female to 1/4" female reducer will do it. Do a mock-up and make sure the total length is OK (you want the probe tip in the center of the manifold).

I've seen several trucks with the 1/4" hole and have not heard of a cracking issue.

Oh yeah I bought the early 1st gen DonM EDM's from Bill I don't think they're hugely bigger than my stockers (waiting to hear back from Don on the details) but from all I've read about EDM's, it sounds like I'll be able to use more of the fuel they deliver due to a cleaner pattern/burn. I'll be the guinea pig for this one and let ya'll know in about a week

Oh, BTW, if I'm now drilling for 1/8'' NPT and then adapting up, what size drill do I need for THAT?
