Pyro not registering at low egt's

My autometer pyro does not register correctly at low egt's at an idle and stop and go traffic it barely moves off of 0 degrees. At 60 mph i am at only 400 degrees. I thought that is kinda low. After a long trip as soon as it goes to an idle the temps fall to 150 degree and then within a minute they go to zero. What wold make it act that way? thanks

Run a ground wire from the engine to the firewall and see if things improve. Our body grounding is often pretty poor after 15 years - and it wasn't the best to start with.

12 gauge is plenty. The factory body ground is 14 gauge.

I just went fomr the firewall behind the #6 vavle cover to the bolt s on the intake manifold and it now jsut stops going down at 100 degree and wont go to zero anymore. So it helped out but wasnt exactly it.

Make sure the connections at the thermocouple and inside on the pyro are tight.

I had a bouncing reading problem and I called autometer direct. They said to run a ground wire from the gauge directly to the negative terminal on the battery. Worked great.. I agree on the bad cab ground....

YOu know what else it could be is that if you shrink wraped the wires together running into the cab you will get a bonkers reading. Mine were interfering with each other because the 2 screws ended up touching each other. I just e taped them apart and re shrink wrapped.
