Now that I think about it, even if they are the right distance apart, they are much shorter than the 4WD coil mounts.

You said you had the whole frame section of the second gen, perhaps splice in the whole frame? I am not sure of frame rail widths though. Worst case you could not only add the control arm brackets, but the could buckets as well.
