Putting 9mm Injectors in '91-'93 CTD
I have a set of 9mm injectors out of an '89 Cummins. I am currently driving a '92 rather anemic 7mm's. I have already put an HX-35 on it after turning the pump up and gaining nothing what so ever, not even a little puff of smoke. I was told that you can swap these injectors, is this true? I want to try it asap but would like to know if its possible before I go cracking fuel lines. And is there any other quick easy tweaking I can do for power? Ahead of time I thank anyone who offers help.
Also who here knows about the A518's? I am having a problem with the overdrive. The truck before I owned it sat for a couple months but was rarely driven in overdrive. My problem starts with the speedometer going nuts and the it drops out of overdrive. Could this be the OD solenoid sticking/going bad or am I completely wrong. The trans has bout 40K on rebuild and shifts beautiful. Has anyone had this problem or know anyone who has? And if so, what can I do to fix it? I ordered a Transgo shift kit because I haul alot (good idea or bad idea?) which should be here tomorrow. Thanks again for any help you guys can offer.

no the 9mm injectors wil not work in ours. but if your gaining no power with those mods, you can try, changing the fuel filter or the lift pump, mine went out and it had no power no i can do burnouts with little trouble.

What is the difference between them? I know a guy who swapped 2nd gen injectors into an '89 (that's where I got the injectors), why is it that he could do that and I can't put 1st gens in a 1st gen? Sorry I should have put that in my first post.

Because to go from bigger to smaller, we just put copper sleeves around the tips and into the head. For you, you have a 7mm head and want a 9mm injector. Try stuffing a 1/2" bolt in a 3/8" hole. Ours is putting a 3/8 bolt in a 1/2" hole. How come more people dont use 2nd gen injectors in our rigs? My guess is the fuel lines wouldnt be right?

The 7mm or 9mm is the diameter of the injector and bore the injector is. The earliest 1st gens had the 9mm, Cummins later changed the head casting to 7mm for a "product improvement". There were better chances of cracked heads due to thin wall casting with 9mm.

You can use 2nd gen tips, obviously gotta get the injectors re-poped, but the fuel bowls in the pistons r different, so the second gen tips spray outside of the bowl in the 1st gens.

So there is no hope for a power gain in the crap. Unless I buy injectors, or I could swap my 2nd gen head. Like I said there was no gain on pump toying, when I put the HX on the throttle response seemed much better and peppier. But no smoke.
On the A518, anybody have anything to offer? Still having problems.
Cowboy Customs, sorry to hear about the wreck. Atleast you came out of it. I miss driving that truck. I need some parts if you find what's going on with the truck we will buy it off you.

I'm pretty sure only the 2nd gen 24valve pistons have a different "combustion chamber" in the piston. Then there are the marine pistons and injectors that are entirely different.

I like my pod's, but lots of people think they are too smokey. I have them set perfect though, where only a slight cloud comes prespool then nothing. There are also bosch 190s that many like. Im not sure what the 185s can do. And if you wanna get serious, you can get edm's.

I'm fairly new to the Diesel modification game, atleast on the 1st gen's for power. What are the specs on the pod's and where is the place to get them?

Yeah sorry, I didn't realize it, POD's as in Lucas "Prince Of Darkness". I had looked at them on Peirs and was leaning towards. What are the EDM's though?
