Just did it when I killed the KDP. Little more noise, little less smoke, way easier then turning the pump, that's for sure.

Now I have to turn the pump back, went a little to far I think. 1 tooth plus 1/8th in and truck doesn't run smooth at speed and acts like it's trying harder. time to turn the pump back.

Maybe mine is messed up, I jumped a tooth and still have my pump up against the head and it runs great. Could be the new injectors pop high or something. Not sure yet. Boost is down about 5psi. Anyone know how much boost I should expect to loose jumping a tooth and not changing the pump settings?

That sounds reasonable to me.

It's funny. If I advanced a tooth my mess would 'splod no doubt.

I've always done mine with the dial micrometer measuring actual pump lift. Stock, mine was at 1.4mm. When I advanced the typical 1/8" plus a bit, I found the timing at 2.10mm. It sounded as though it was trying too hard as np205 commented. I've since backed it down to 2.0mm and it runs very well.

With that, I've still got almost 1/4" between the pump and engine. Weird.
