Powerstroke IC behind a 89,90 "old style" grill

Has any one been able to do it and keep the grill.
I picked up a beautiful intercooler today and I really want to keep the old style grill. So if any one has or has any idea's let's get them out there.

Thanks

I don't think it would be possible to not cut the grill. I have a tube grill on mine and it hits that.

I'm gonna find out real soon. I'm ditching the air to water setup and gonna run one of these PS IC's with the twins. I'm hoping to tuck it completely up against the core support then just trim some of the lower valance and plastic grill off. If not I've got a 1st gen IC that was on it previously, so it would go back.

I put mine down low so I could just shorten the secondary hood latch and keep it.

some people shave the backside of the grill, but I don't think you can shave enough of the stock grille to clear the PS intercooler, maybe the small bank$ model.

How about the 2nd Gen I/C, anyone think it would clear? I like the 89' & 90' early 1st Gen Grille myself.

I will say for sure you have to cut a ton of the structure of the core support to get the cooler in. You also have to cut the radiator mounts.

I have heard it is easier to put in a 2nd gen cooler in a 89, 90 than a powerstoke unit. If you have a factory i/c then it is easyier to put in a powerstroke unit. The core support is diffrent.

Richie O Thanks for the picks it's a great help. I already removed my ac in the front and I am going to move the other cooler out of the way and I'm going to give it a shot. If it doesn't work I think I'm just going get a IC style rad support and grill but I want to give it a shot first.

Bill if you get to it before me let me know if it works and if I get to it before you I'll let you know.

Thanks for all the input everyone keep it coming.

I would like to see some comparison measurements of the stock 1st Gen, 2nd Gen and PS Intercoolers, as well as the later 1st Gen radiator measurements. Might be a good idea to consider a radiator upgrade if there is considerable fab work going on anyway.

Anyone out there care to post some measurements? Might be helpful to those of us facing some fabrication work to put an intercooler in.

Always

I would be interesting to know is for sure......i thing the 2nt gen is bigger, BUT the 2nt gen tanks are a lot bigger, and could be throwing us off.

Richie O, if you want to measure you intercooler core, i will do the same to mine, and then we will know.
