Power Upgrades
Apologies for posting to multiple forums, but as they say "knowledge is power" and power is why we're all here.
I have a 91.5 intercooled CTD automatic in a 93 chevy 1500. Current mods: MasterPower turbo (don't know the sizes), BHAF, open 4" exhaust (straight back),
and ground fuel pin, starwheel turned down all the way. Lots of smoke once I hit the go pedal. Some go, but not much - EGTs goin' up real fast tho.
Only get about 8psi of boost. Lot's of white smoke at idle.
Anyway, recently resurrected the project after a 3 year hiatus (translated: divorce and custody battle) and want to give her (the truck) some Christmas presents.
This is what I'm thinking:
KDP kit
3200 Spring
Fuel Pin (Denny T is looking really good right now) - any suggestions
Water/Methanol Injection (Snow Performance???)
Propane Injection - suggestions/advice???
Replumb the air intake and intercooler pipes (it's a mess right now)
Any comments or suggestions?

Welcome to DTR! Sounds like you have a massive boost leak somewhere. White smoke usually means the timing is retarded. Curious to see a pic of that turbo.

I found the "5.9L cummins upgrade turbo" from MasterPower
http://www.dynamicturbo.com/products...wer-turbo.html 4 down the list.
specs- http://www.dynamicturbo.com/product_...?pvk=6597&cmk=
Welcome to DTR , sounds like you have a cool truck. I have a 91 1500 RCSB 2wd w/5.7L that i'd love to put a 4bt cummins in.
You list looks good, the 3200 spring and DennyT pin are nice mods , the 3200 spring is the best $20 ever. and the DennyT pin is easy to install and adds nice pep.
8psi sounds bad but then again with that big turbo 8psi could be normal. but white smoke is not normal.
I recoomend advancing your timing, for some more power and to clear up the white smoke. Check the "STICKY" and scroll down to the performance section theres LOTS of info in there, In there is a link to a thread that has videos on "HOW TO ADVANCE THE TIMING", Do some readin while you're in there

Wow i just did some math and that turbo is a 64/65 ... not sure of the exhaust housing but that compressor is HUGE For a stock VE pump.
Do you have an EGT gauge??? if so what numbers you seeing at WOT assuming the egt gauge is plumbed in the manifold...... I'd start tweaking the crap outta the fuel/power screw so you can spool that monster , and get as much fuel as possible for that matter.
Just read here, EVERYTHING is covered. You'll learn alot

Thanks guys. I'll post a picture up as soon as the truck gets back from the body shop. I had to give it a cosmetic touch up so that I can keep it parked in front of the house. I'm definitely doing the fuel pin and the 3200 spring. What do you think of the propane and methanol?

Cool. Thanks for the replies. I'll check into the timing and replumb the air. I'll post some pictures this week so you guys can see what I'm talking about. I do have an EGT gauge, but unfortunately it's mounted on the downpipe after the turbo. Don't ask. I figure I'll get the snow performance methanol kit that comes with the boost and pyro gauges and sensors and put them in the correct locations.

There was some guy on one of the other forums running a 62/71/14 on his first gen and it was pretty much stock. I was like wow. I thought about asking him how it spooled, but didn't bother.

Not at all. It's almost done. I'm having the chassis painted as well. It's been at the body shop for over 2 months now. The guy's been working on it off and on. I was hoping to have it done in a month, but I'm not rushing the work. My camera died during a recent adventure race before I sent it to the shop and I just got it's replacement. I'll try to pass by tomorrow and take some pics.

Hey oilcan, Just took the pics about 2 hrs ago. Have to download them from the camera, reduce the size, and post. The chassis painted, now it's just the body.
