POP! Goes the Injector...
Howdy,
Anybody ever have an injector loosen-up and pop out of the head?
The guy I sold my old truck to called me the other night and said he was hearing a what he thought was a ticking noise...all of a sudden he heard a big POP!
Lots of white smoke so he shut her right down...got it home, looked under the hood and lo and behold one injector had come loose and blown itself out of the head.
Bent the lines and all...
Wher would the best place to get replacement lines?
I never serviced the injectors when I had the truck, and as far as I know, they are the originals.
How exactly are the injectors held in the head? Any idea's how this could have happened?
I mean besides the fact that a Cummins rattles all day long...

The injector is held in with a big nut. I don't know how it could just pop out.
Cummins would be the place to get the lines. Unless they are kinked I would try bending them back gently. Worst thing that could happen is they fail and then he needs new ones.

Like wanna said there is a big nut that holds the injectors i guess it came loose as for the lines unbend them gently if not kinked theyl be good there is also a snap thing on the injectors like on a ratchet that holds the socket in place check if it is still working and put injector back in check if nut thread are not stripped my guess is it chould be good after that i think that nut is 15/16

Well,
I talked to him again and he never touched 'em either. It seems the nut backed itself off and, PHOOT!
The lines were bent pretty good...I guess when an injector is shot-out at 350+ psi...even attached to the fuel lines... it goes farther than you might think.
While gently trying to return it to it's rightful place, the return line broke...
Looks like he's going to Cummins for the return line.
I'm thinkin' next time I'm under the hood I'm gonna' snug all mine...heck, I might just make a *special* trip under there.

Hey Monty,
He said the threads looked fine, the collar went right back and snugged down tight with no problems.
I guess these motor's can rattle anything loose...
