Many paint removers are Caustic Based (aka lie, sodium hydroxide) and caustic eats aluminium, big time. If you read a bottle of oven cleaner it says do not use on tin foil. (Wives usually throw tin foil into the bottom of the oven to catch the pie filling overflow) It can cuase a fire, because it releases hydrogen, heat's up and is stuck in an enclosed space (your oven). Think of a package from Magyver. Go to an aircraft painter, they have aluminium compatable paint removers.

Hey guys, auto zone or pepboys all sell aircraft paint remover in a spray can, safe for aluminum. That is what I used to do the Cat3412 in my gallery. Then start with 120 wet then 220,320 400, 600, 1000, all wet stay in on direction, aluminum is soft. Finish with Wenol, it will take a few coats to pull all the sanding grit out. I am currently doing my 24v, valve cover, intake horn, and turbo intake housing. I'll post pics when done. The cat in my gallery was done in the order above. Hard to see, but the turbo and entire intake pipe is done as well as valve covers. Finish off with stainless capscrews.

That looks awesome! I love the details, like red IC boot, and the matching BHAF pipe, I had planned on doing a polished or chromed intake tube when I do it. Im thinking about finding a set of covers and having them chromed. Im not really that impressed with mine, and doing something with that cover too, maybe red powder coat, and black lettering. I kind of like the red deal, looks like a Cummins N-14 under the hood at first glance.

That's the cleanest 1st gen I have seen in a long time. Well done!

Is it hard to keep the chrome valve covers clean? I had chrome valve covers on my HEMI Road Runner and they were a pain to keep clean!

Aw shucks, you're making me blush!

I was really excited to find one so nice, epecially at a dealership. I was there before they opened and jumped on it first thing.

The chrome is plenty easy to keep clean and adds a nice touch. The only problem with the chrome BHAF tube is that the inside needs to be kept lightly oiled to keep it from rusting.

I love my truck!
