Played around a little today...

I dug out our digital camera and decided to take a quick video of the truck to see how much it smokes. I had yet to see it from outside the truck, and it surprised me, even with the AFC lever only partially ground. Heres a quick shot:

And an animated GIF (rather large filesize):

And while Im at it, I think the threads for the fuel screw are messed up (the threads in the pump). I think the jam-nut may have been tightened a little too much . Does anyone know of a place to get a new pump top?

One last question, just in case I run into a whole bunch of money... How much does it take to swap a 24V head onto this engine?

Thanks.

Tom

Sweet!

Thats what I want! Is that all you have done to your truck in your sig? Seems to be puffing a lot of smoke for what you have for mods (in my mind). Or does grinding the AFC lever really kick the smoke up another level?

www.scheiddiesel.com for pump parts/builds etc. On the 24V idea, I suggest putting the money elsewhere. 600hp can be had with stock 12V head.

Grinding the AFC is a whole new world when it comes to smoke. Basically, the AFC is there to allow increased fueling in proportion to the amount of available air (boost). If the engine had no turbo, there would be no need for the AFC housing (but there would be a different means of controlling fuel delivery). By grinding the 'Foot' you are removing some of (a LOT of) the control the AFC has over fueling in a 'no boost' condition. All of this=black cloud!
