Play in Brake Pedal

I'm trying to set up my Jordan brake controller and find I'm having difficulty, due to the excess play I have in my brake pedal. If I slowly press the pedal down, it moves about 2" before I start to get any braking. Otherwise the brakes work just fine. It's been like this for as long as I can remember.
Is there any way to adjust the linkage between the pedal and the brake booster?
I replaced the brake booster last year, but I can't for the life of me remember if the shaft was adjustable or not (bad memory is the second sign of getting old). At that time, I just put it back exactly as I found it.

Does anyone else have this problem?

If the pedal comes up when you pump it once or twice most likely the rears need adjusting but you dont want them so tight they drag. If you have play in the linkage the pedal will just rattle between all the way up and where it contacts the pin, if you had play between the master cyl and booster you would have some resistance until the pin contacted the master cylinder piston then you would feel the click or clunk as it hit. weather you move the pedal slow or fast shouldn't make any difference.

Good point. I started out with correctly adjusted rear brakes, but I must admit, by the time I had figured out what was happening, and how I could correct it, I had put about 3,000 miles on the truck. I guess it could have been getting worse slowly, and now all I can remember is the just the last part. I'll try again when it gets warmer.

Pedal doesn't pump up, and there is no rattle or click. I guess I hadn't thought the play thing through far enough. It is sounding more like Wannadiesel's rear brake adjustment suggestion.
Come on warm weather.
