Pics Inside a used 6BTA
I've been searching through some of the used equipment at work, I'm always on the hunt for good parts and found an decent looking 6B. I pulled the service records and it seemed like a good runner so I bought it. It had a few things that needed attention and I decided to inspect it closer so I pulled the front cover and pan. With as nice as this looks I'm going to use it for my repower instead of the engine I already have for the project.
This engine has 126,000 miles on it, not sure of the hours.
The cam looks like it has some fretting in the pictures, but it does not. I think the oil film was making my camera unhappy maybe.
I just reinstalled the gear housing in this picture. The truck this engine came out of was wrecked and the gear housing had a crack through one of the outer mounting holes. While I was in there I also tig'd the KDP hole closed.
Off Topic: (But I don't want to start a new thread just for this. It's probably been beat to death?)
I really haven't messed too much with bombing these little engines, just repairing them in the industry. I have an ample supply of HX40W turbo's that we use on ISC's. I can get a decent deal on them, is it worth swapping the H1C for the HX40W? How much power in a B will they support? The ISC's are 250-275HP depending on what piece of equipment we use them in and I'm not sure of the Turbine housing size as the housing isn't marked. Thanks.

h1c are fine just need smaller exh housing(12/14/16) ive heard of guys up in the 370 rwhp range. im sure there are some guys on here that will give you some info on the hx40"s capabilities.
im amazed at how good that engine looks inside. looks like a good candidate for bombing.

That looks really nice inside - probably thanks to regular oil changes.
Most of the '40's have exhaust housings that are too big for good spoolup. If you can find a '40W with a 16 cm wastegated that will work well up around 400 HP. I wouldn't even try to use it on an engine with less than 300 HP.
