picking up 92 tomorrow
Going to pick up another ctd tomorrow, 92 auto dually, d350. kinda rough but so's my 93. Gotta get the gauges mounted soon so I can turn the pump up on the 93. Think I'll go through the tranny and add lockup when I get a good converter saved up for.

Advantages:
-plenty of vehicles to drive, can leave other on trailer or loaded and not have to unload it right away
-keep people guessing, What truck did Mike take today?
-if one breaks down, jump in another one, fix when you get time.
-many others that I can't think of right now.
Disadvantages:
-Registration and insurance, insurance will kill you in NJ
-Maintainance, they all seem to need something all at once.

Yeah, registration and insurance is the real killer here in PA, too. It's still cheaper than paying the note on one new truck, though. I operated on the 2-beater system for years until I got my Dodge. I ran that exclusively for 2 years, but I recently picked up a beater Jeep Cherokee for snow/spare use. It's really best if you can have a fleet of mechanically similar vehicles, though. Makes stocking parts simpler.

txs,
When you decide to put that lockup trans in your truck just give a ring here, there's a couple of other guys including me who have L/U tranmissions in a 1st gen. We can tell you all about it.
Wanna,
Yeah, having mechanically similar vehicles is life saver here. 6 trucks with the cummins in them and 4 of them on the road. For the price of a new truck we have the 6 and some of them are quite nice.

Only thing I'll need to get advise on is the control circuit for the L/U, don't think the diesel is as forgiving as the gassers, if you forget to turn off the toggle switch in a gasser it just kills the motor when you stop, might be a different story with a ctd. I do my own tranny work, this one will be getting a healthy dose of 48re innards.

I use a switch on the dash, I think most other guys do the same. A good tranny will stall the mighty CTD, but a flaky one probable will slip. If you do it with mine it will downshift into 2nd then 1st and unlock when it gets to 1st. Not something I do, but found out when I forgot to unlock it.
I've been thinking about rebuilding my own tranny because every single local rebuilder I've dealt with is just about useless. I guess I need a clean place to do it, some special tools, and a good manual.
