Phatshaft turbos

Do they bolt up and can you run the silver bullets and the superphat shaft turbos in our trucks?

What is a phatshaft turbo I have looked at Ind diesel web site and they don't say what it is I think it is just BS smoke & mirrors advertising.Ken

There is a turbo called a phatshaft.

Most aftermarket turbos advertised for 94 and up trucks will work on 1st gens as well, matter of fabbing up a downpipe and hooking up a wastegate setup. (wastegate same as 94 up.)

Thanks for the info, learner question, I guess the wastegate is in the exhaust housing?

The actual shaft is suppose to be bigger. I have the Phatshaft 62 and love it. Boost 42 psi consistantly and smoothly. You will either have to run larger exhaust from the turbo back or neck it down after the turbo back to your stock exhaust. The EGTS arent bad either highway cruisin (65mph) it runs about 700.

I Have a Super Phatshaft 66 for pulling on mine. Everything bolts up. If you want to save money and don't mind taking a hammer and putting a dent in your firewall a 2nd gen downpipe will fit(its just tight)! Or you can build a downpipe for it. They want a lot of money for 1st gen downpipe.

The Industrial Injection line of Phatshafts have a 65 mm turbine wheel. The Super Phat Shaft are 71 mm turbine wheel and Silver series are a 73 or 74 mm (can't remember). Turbos can be had with a 62, 64 or 66 compressor wheel. Exhuast housings are available in 12 or 14 cm. Not sure if you can run the smaller 12 cm housing on the Super Phat and Silver series.

High Tech Turbo line up is pretty much the same thing but with additional options of running 13 or 16 cm stainless steel (ss) exhaust housings.

IMO a 62/65/14 is a big improvement over an HX35 with little loss in spoolup.
I had a PDR HX35 when I switched to the 62/65/14 and picked up about 25 hp with lower boost and egt's.

For comparison sake, what is a stock HX35 54/60/12? I don't know.

i got a super phatshaft ordered and waitin on it to come in,do you have to change the oil lines or are they the same 2nd gen to first gen?

Its also nice they are good through 550 HP.

I didn't change the oil lines. It is a little tight though.

ok cool thanks i got to get a 4"v band thingy and modify my down pipe, how are 6x18 sticks with the super phat 62.would that be too much

Just get 6x16's....

You'd probably get more power out of 6x16's with your setup. I dont think the turbo you bought is quite enough to keep 6x18's cool. (egt)
