The pathway to............

As the title states, it was with good intentions. A coworker called me in the Am asking me how to get his stuck 4runner out of the mud. Well dummy me, I just had to see it. I met him and the other guy he tried to rescue at the edge of the woods and off we went. The pictures will tell the rest of the story.

This is what I went after. I in fact never got there and wass rescued myself by a very well appointed Jeep Wrangler with a 9500 lbs. winch.

Where I started it wasn't bad. I had two guys riding in the bed, they were a mess, and I didn't have enough speed to keep going. after allI was a mile off the main road at that point and nowhere to turn around.

These trucks look so good in the mud though!

They are a little front heavy though. Mine does ok with big 35" Mud terrains.

If a Toyota is stuck I wouldn't go near it unless I'm still on pavement or hard ground. If a 4,000lb truck sank the front heavy 6500lb goat is gonna go to China.

Naw, they both leaked. The third member was under water for five hours as well. I had to drive it home like that but I parked it until I could tear it down and survey the carnage. The wheel bearings and everything else was saved but the wheel bearing seals which I replaced. The axle tubes were full of mud but a piece of pipe hooked to my shop vac took care of that. All in all it was quite an experience. One that I hope to not repeat. It cost me two tubes of grease, three quarts of gear oil, two seals, half a tub of bearing grease and eight hours of cleaning mud out of places I never thought I would see. I pressure washed the underside and body but I still need to shovel out the cab and bed.

If you are gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough! I knew I was in trouble when I hung up the phone. The worst phrase you can ever tell yourself is: "All you gotta do is....."

A good friend will get stuck trying to help get you out. Back when I had my Tacoma I finished several late night phone calls with " remember when I called you and you said it was to late"

The favorite joke around here is "come on...lets just go look at it" and then someone always ends up in the middle of the pond! hahaha

I've always liked you can make it. It's not that bad, guzzle guzzle, you got this!
