oops, oil over fill......

Well, I was not paying attention and doing several things at once and over filled the oil. It is about 3/16" above the fill mark, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 quarts over. Do I need to drain it down or will I be ok? I will just be doing road driving. Thanks...david

that little bit wont make a difference. Its not enough to hit the crank and get sloshed around.

The previous owner of the wife's truck always ran 14 quarts, instead of the usual 12/three-gallons.

One thing I have noticed, after changing the oil in both of ours, is that three gallons only puts the dipstick about half-way up into the "SAFE" zone.

That's how mine looks too. I think the zone between the marks must be about 2 qt., and an extra quart over that even ain't gonna hurt anything.

I accidentally over filled mine once too. A couple of quarts over didn't hurt a thing from what I could tell.

The oil filter holds 1 quart. You could try removing it with a strap wrench so as to not damage it, drain it, then reinstall. This would get rid of a quart of oil. I can't think right now, but 3/16" doesn't sound like it would equate to 1.5-2 quarts. The gap between high and low is 2 quarts.
