oops, lost some AC coolent

so i was getting creative with my truck, i was gonna drop down the rads because of body lift, and then i forgot that the ac has high pressure and i went and started to unbolt the one nut that holds the ac lines to the rad and it blew out some ac refrigerent but i quickly tightened it up, now will i loose ac? or is it still good, i lost very little

the quick check is to turn the A/C on max and check the sight glass in the top of the accumulator, it should show a green circle.. if its not , then teh levle is too low and tho it might cool teh air, you can damage the system by runing it too long like that..

If it was less than 5seconds of blast, I wouldnt worry about it. There is quite a range of amount of refrigerant that can be run and still be within spec. The system has a compressor shut off for when the pressures get too low. Plus, if the engine was off, it likely wasnt more than 100psi coming out.

oh ok it was only like 2-3 seconds max, thanks alot, i thought i would have to take it in and get someone else to reprime the system or w/e.

While you're most likely OK in this instance . . . .

FYI: When any refrigeration system runs low on refrigerant, the compressor is what suffers the consequences first as any residual cooling effect left over at the evaporator is what cools the compressor itself. REF: The sweating seen on the big pipe (suction line) at the compressor is a good thing and indicates the refrigerant vapors returning to the compressor still have some cooling effect (generally speaking).

I just got my A/C working again I can see R-12 moving through but I haven't seen a green circle on the sight glass. Mind you I haven't checked it yet with max A/C on. Does the little green circle come on right after you put it on max or does it take a while?

i am not sure.. What I posted is something I have read back when i was converting mine to R134, but I am NOT an A/C expert by any means..
