Question old smokey

ok im thinking of an old smokey pin and had some questions. first does it smoke alot, second what kind of mpg loss, third can it cause a runaway, fourth will it cause me to have to have an egt gauge . also this was just a thing i heard from an old trucker and it made me think. he said that he would clamk off the return line from the injectors and it would gain a lot of power, would this work, would it harm the truck?

1. Depends on how you set the smoke screw and star wheel. It can be tuned to smoke or not smoke, depends on your preference.

2. If you drive as you normally do you will not lose mileage. Diesels only use enough fuel to make the power you ask for, just having more fuel available does not make the engine use more fuel. If you can't keep your foot out of it, of course mpg will fall some.

3. No, can't happen without messing with the main fuel screw.

4. With a tweaked pump you are already playing with a rattlesnake by running without gauges. Get gauges!

Your buddy is thinking of a different style of fuel system. His trick will not work with our trucks.
