Oil Change Overfill
While changing out my oil, I went in to take a phone call. When I came back my helper had left. Thinking I still needed to add oil, I added 12qts. My helper didn't return until after I'd started the vehicle up to let the new oil circulate, drove over to a used oil disposal place and back home(less than 2 miles at in town speeds. When he arrived he told me he'd already put 12qrts in. I checked the dipstick and sure enough he had. My question is would this do any damage to my motor? (I did drain out the overfill 12qts by the way)

Nope you are fine. Just get the level back where it belongs and it will be fine. I've overfilled mine and drove it until the next oil change. The oil breather spit out what it didn't need all over my drive way.
BTW fill out the signature portion so we know which truck you have, but the CDT won't be hurt by a temporary overfill. Just check it again the next fuel stop.

I may be an but my rear main seal started leeking after I overfilled by 4qts- started leeking within 2 days. I dont know if these things are related but I thought I might throw that in. If I'm wrong and I hope I am, I'm sure the other guys will let you and I know.

i would think it would create more oil psi and blow some type of seal somewhere. usually when people fill up with oil they check the dip stick to see if more needs ot be added etc... hope it all works out for ya, jiMMy

When the oil level gets too full it will hit the crank and rods. That will cause airation and whipping of the oil. It will inhibit the oil drainback from the head causing it to blow out the breather. It can cause the crankcase to build up some pressure too, causing new leaks. Depends mostly on how hard you ran it and how much overfull it was as to the pressure it built up. Could damage the seals if it was high enough. It will create excessive friction drag on the motor too. After you correct it, if it don't leak don't worry about it. If it leaks you know what you gotta do.

I'd agree with getting the level back to normal asap. 12 quarts is a big overfill, and it does put pressure on seals, and stress the engine. The crank has to push it's way through alot more liquid.
Thing of running in ankle deep water, versus waist deep water. Not good.
