If it is an intercooled truck there is no cable.

Does the speedometer quit working at the same time, or does it keep working when the odometer quits?

My 92 speedo jumped around like that and it was the speed sensor wires rubbing the drive shaft and wore thru the insulation. Taped them and tied them up out of the way and no more problems.

I'm having the EXACT same issue. Speedometer works just fine but the odometer stops working for a couple hundred miles at a time...sometimes 20-30 miles at a time. no real pattern. I checked my gears and they are just fine...no missing teeth or cracks. surely somebody has some insight
